Heart stoppage

Today I got to my office in the early afternoon, booted up my computer, opened Firefox and discovered all my bookmarks were gone.

Gone.

All gone.

I almost threw up. I can’t even begin to tell you how many research related items I have stored in there…teaching links…style guide things…as well as all the great blogs I desperately try to read everyday, in order to stay sane!

Thankfully, with a little bit of help from Google, a lot of cursing, and several failed attempts, I was finally able to find the magic combination that restored all my bookmarks.

I was *so* pissed that I wasted about an hour on that. Normally I love Firefox, but today…well….screw you Firefox!!!

And yes.  I learned how to back up my bookmarks from now on, and saved those magic instructions to my desktop so that if it ever happens again, I can keep my breakfast down and fix the problem in 5 minutes.

  1. Yack – that sucks :(
I never heard of that *shudders….*
Glad you could find them again!!

  2. this sucks. i can’t imagine loosing my bookmarks. i have everything saved there. i wouldn’t even know where to begin as far as fixing it or getting them back. i’m glad you figure it out… but sorry that it happened to begin with.
    hugs, jenn

  3. Awww that’s awful. Computers are great, except when they’re not. I lost all sorts of things when my BlackBerry croaked last week. Backing up is one of those things you always *mean* to do, but just never quite happens, right? Hope you’re able to find everything you need…

  4. How strange. I have no idea how to backup my Bookmarks in Firefox … so I’d appreciate knowing what you did. Although I use them occasionally, I tend to rely on Google Reader more and more these days and use the Bookmark feature less frequently all the time. That said … I wouldn’t want to lose them.
    Hugs and blessings,
