Have you ever met someone so hopelessly clueless that you want to just smash their head through something? My Facebook status right now declares that I have “LSPT”, aka, Low Stupid People Tolerance. I think that the freshman orientation is really code for “The Biggest Gathering of Stupid People at One Time.” I had one girl today that was such a pain in the ass. Priority? Making sure no classes conflicted with any potential rushing schedule, and not having any 8am classes. And taking the easiest classes ever.
I admit I have limited patience. I apparently have even less when it comes to some of these freshman. I am so glad I am teaching a class of juniors in the fall. Hopefully they’ll be a little bit more dedicated – or at least, have gone through enough college to have figured out the system so they appear dedicated.
In a non-stupid moment, I’m happy to report that I got a 100 on my 2nd statistics assignment. You should probably look outside your window right now, as the pigs are probably about to fly any second. I don’t know why I suddenly understand something math related, but I’m not going to question it too heavily.
Bonus thing learned today? If you book a ticket on Southwest, even if you book a non-refundable ticket, if you call within 24 hours of booking it, you can cancel the whole thing and get a refund. That’s unheard of! I have been watching some plane tickets to Chicago. Southwest popped up today with the lowest I’ve seen at $279. I waffled a bit, then decided it probably wouldn’t get better. I guess all the goodwill in the universe has gone towards helping me do well in stats, because when I got home, my Yapta tracker had emailed me that a flight on American Airlines had just dropped to $239. After a few well spoken “Fuck”’s, my boy called Southwest and asked about the policy – and we found out that bit about the refund. I called, I cancelled…and then I booked on American, saving $50 (no, my math isn’t off – I got an additional discount through the conference on American, taking the ticket total down to $228).
So if you ever think you’re going to book a flight, then change your mind…book Southwest.

I had a similar experience with Southwest awhile back, also to Chicago
I booked a flight, found out that there was a graduation event scheduled for several weeks earlier, prepared to grab my ankles to make the change… and the fare was cheaper for the new dates, so I got a credit. Not what I expected, for certain. So nice when things work out once in awhile. That said, I haven’t seen any deals on Southwest from where I am in a very long time.
