My computer is going a little wacky on me. I don’t like it. The past couple of days I’ve been working in Microsoft Word, and when I save my work and close the program, I get a message that tells me Word has stopped working (no shit, that’s why I did the ‘close’ command’) and then it will immediately restart itself to a blank document. I’ve got great virus protection on this machine, so I’m pretty positive I don’t have a virus. Maybe my computer is just possessed right now. I need an old priest, and a young priest…and that wonderful ‘Back up files’ command in my control panel.
Which I am running right now.
I had what some might consider an uneventful weekend, but it was a weekend I think I needed in order to keep my mind on a level playing field. My boy headed up to North Alabama for Father’s Day festivus with his family, and I dutifully gave him a smooch and sent him on his way as I stayed home to work. Hey, maybe I should re-take that 1930’s wife quiz again! Over the course of about a day and a half I did my statistics homework (which wasn’t too painful, so I either did it well or totally screwed it up), read two articles for my research class, wrote one critique, got the second one half done, graded midterm exams, planned out the week’s activities for the class I’m teaching (yay for speeches on their part), ran a couple errands, got gas for $3.79 at Sam’s Club, did a couple of loads of laundry, rearranged the furniture in the living room, hung some pictures, cleaned the bathrooms, kitchen and den, changed the sheets, read a little bit for pleasure, and made a dinner of chicken nuggets, edamame and Ben & Jerry’s for dinner Saturday night and watched a chick flick (In Her Shoes). Geez. Maybe I should re-take that wife quiz.
A wild woman, I was not. And some might scoff at the term ‘uneventful’ to describe the weekend. But I was able to get all that done, eliminating much stress from my week ahead, so I can accept the fact that I’m not always wild. Besides…sometimes a girl just needs some downtime with a chick flick and edamame.
I might be alone in my enjoyment of cleaning house. Of organizing. Of clearing the clutter, putting things back in their rightful place, and making the furniture shine and smell nice with furniture polish. In July I plan to redo the living room and master bathroom, and I’m excited for the changes. (I’m not excited to peel more wallpaper, but those are the last two rooms with it, praise baby cheesits.) While I don’t let my living quarters turn into a pigsty, it’s all to easy to let the mail pile up, and clean laundry remain the basement.
Oh. I forgot to put the laundry away. What is wrong with me??? 3 demerits!
I have a small personality quirk. See, even my weekends that I consider “uneventful” or “down time” for me – does it seem to you like that’s really down time? To me, it is. I guess my motor is set permanently on high. Rare is the day I can actually waste…there’s just something in my genetic makeup that has me constantly feeling like I need to be being productive.
Does that mean there’s something wrong with me?
I think I’ll go finish off the Ben & Jerry’s.

Taking some time to just take care of stuff at home is perfect. I think better when I’m all organized and centered – and this explains why I often have trouble thinking

Sitting still is hard. It requires serious thought and commitment. I can’t do it anymore either…

I can’t sit still either. I often wonder what I did with all my time while I was single. Oh that’s right, I slept!
$3.79?? So jealous!

I feel the same way about wasting time. For me, it’s the classic grad school guilt kicking in. Work work work!
You reminded me to back up my files, by the way. Thanks!

i think that sounds like a lovely wkend. and really maybe you should take the test again… sending the mister off with a kiss and then cleaning and organizing the homestead while he is gone.
the only thing is… i hope you had your ‘face on’ when he came home and a huge smile and no crook in your panty hose line.
lol
glad you had a good weekend. honestly, that is how i would love to spend a relaxing weekend… getting things done that i need to do and then cleaning up and doing things around the house.
i think you are perfectly normal!!

Um… what can I bribe you with to come to my house occasionally?
