Weekly Winners, 6/22/08

The Weekly Winners is the great idea of Lotus at Sarcastic Mom – click on her for the original weekly winners post, and to see more great weekly winners!
I’m happy with this week’s collection, and I started to play with Photoshop just a bit. I ended up heading into Birmingham for a bit on Friday, so I made an effort to try to take some new shots I’ve never taken before.
I grilled steaks on Wednesday, and this was the view off the deck while I was cooking…
I’m determined to learn how to shoot the moon well (that sounds kind of dirty, doesn’t it??)
A lonely bench…
Fire hydrant…
Hydrangeas in the garden at Cathedral Church of the Advent
Statue in the same garden…
This man was drawing the church…
Windows looking from the church garden out to the street
Looking up and out in a mall downtown
Flag Reflections
Thanks for visiting!

  1. I love the picture of the moon, that is a great shot. All the pictures of the cathedral are beautiful as well!

  9. I love your photos. The moon, the statue and the park bench! The drawing man – why the hard hat? That’s funny.

  10. Great shots this week! Love the moon shot.

  11. I’m not sure why, but the shot of the man painiting the church REALLY appeals to me. Maybe it’s the hard hat and the dress shirt…I don’t know. ALL of them are fabulous shots!!

  12. I think you did a fabulous job at photographing the moon. It’s tough without a tripod, believe me, I’ve tried it. ;)

Great photos! Love them all. :)

  13. Great winners! My faves are the hydrangeas & the flags but all of these are great :)

  14. Beautiful moon and sky shots, and I love the colors in the hydrangea photo!

We’ve been feeding our backyard kitty for seven years now, so she’s only a stray in that she lives outside and is a bit jumpy when we’re out in the yard! We can pet her and she’ll rub against our legs, but she’s too wild to be taken inside.

  15. Great shots but the moon is my favorite.
(BTW Born in the south, drink sweet tea and I love Yankees!)

  16. I love the hydrant as well. And how funny that that guy was drawing in a hard hat!

    Great shots!

  17. Beautiful pictures. Love the first one!

  18. Great moon shot! We had this beautiful yellow moon rise this week but my pictures were all terrible blurs.

  19. love the WW pictures as always. :) i think my favorite is the flowers in the garden or… maybe even the fire hydrant. ;) I really like the coloring in them both. :)

  20. I dont get the shoot the moon ref. Im gonna look it up. I hate not knowing dirty things.

  21. I REALLY like your photos this week, Annie.

    The moon shot is nice!

Question, do you have a camera with which you can “fiddle” (that is the technical term) with the focus? If yes, you can focus on infinity (by selecting that feature) or by turning the camera to manual focus and moving the focus wheel until you get to infinity. (My camera doesn’t have a “mark” for when you’ve moved the wheel to infinity, so I just turn, turn, turn.) The moon will be in focus and the leaves will be blurry — if that’s the look you’re going for. Also, you can increase the shutter speed (make the shutter open for less time) and get a bit more detail in the moon.

That’s not to diss your moon — I really do like it. But you said you wanted to shoot the moon better, and my husband told me these tips, so I thought I’d “pay it forward.”

    Rebecca
