About Annie

Hey – I’m Annie!

What is there to know about me? I’m a born and bred Yankee, living down South, and am picking up southern phrases and twangs much to the dismay of my Northern family and friends. I escaped from my short career in television because I realized to make it to the top you have to be an evil person, and I am not. I got a fabulous last minute opportunity, and was able to make a cross over to education, which I absolutely love.

I’m in my 2nd year of a Ph.D. program.  At times, I never would have believed I would have made it this far.  It’s opening up a lot of new things for me to see and think about. The degree that I’ll be earning will be a degree of “Communication and Information Sciences” – which means I study communication, and I’m leaning towards focusing on uses and effects of ‘new media’ – specifically the Internet. I’m also interested in studying stereotypes in the media, and body image/sports media. I guess you could say I’m interested in various forms of the media.

I have recently updated the status of my boyfriend to ‘my fiance’, and he is known as ‘my boy’ around here, and we have lots of adventures together.  We are planning a June 2009 wedding.  I love to travel, read, watch college football and gymnastics, ski (although geography makes that tough), consider myself an amateur photographer (some days I’ll tell you I’m good, some days I won’t!), and have realized that lately I’ve become old, and I don’t really care because I’m happy with my life.

I have two cats. I used to move a lot, but I’ve managed to settle down. I actually bought address labels. I’m a complete wiseass. I also have a dirty sense of humor.

Thanks for reading!

  1. Grin, I can totally relate to the part with the address labels, wiseass and humour ;) !

You need to get yourself an RSS feed!!
(Or maybe I’m blind and you can point me in the right direction to find it?)

  2. Have a nice day !

  3. found your blog randomly (linked from someone, from someone who commented on my blog, etc, etc, lol)…like you, I’m a displaced Yankee. I spent a wonderful 6 1/2 years in the south…and we are headed back there in December for another 2-4 (I’d prefer the 4, of course). My husband is on his 2nd year of doctoral courses…so I can totally understand your fear. I’ve practically taken every class with him (I’m his fearless proofreader…and believe me, some of the stuff he writes? Can’t make sleeping pills that great!).

I look forward to reading your blog again…if I can find it! I’m not home, so I can’t RSS you….sigh….

  4. Found you from another blog. I love the “I escaped from my short career in television because I realized to make it to the top you have to be an evil person, and I am not.” I am also a former TV person (behind the scenes) and whereas I do work in video still, it is not with a local news channel.

I think I will add you to my blogs to read.

    Awesome.

  5. ^ She (Lisa) directed me here. She said that you sounded like me. She’s right. You could be my not-so-evil twin… if twin were to mean similar life paths and interests, since we look nothing a like. :)

  6. I’m a transplanted Yankee as well–a Red Sox fan (ducks) living near Dallas. Drop by my blog and say hello sometime :)
    – Susan
